O. James Sterling, III

O. James Sterling, III, Managing Director. Mr. Sterling founded Aleutian Capital after four years with management consulting firm Booz & Co. (formerly the corporate strategy division of Booz Allen Hamilton), one of the world's largest and most respected strategy and operations consultancies. At Booz & Co., he led projects in business strategy and operations improvement across a range of service and manufacturing industries. Prior to Booz & Co., Mr. Sterling was with Renwick Capital Management, a hedge fund investing in public equities, options, real estate and private equity transactions.

His experience includes buyout and growth capital investing, merger integration, market entry strategy and implementation, evaluation of new business opportunities, business model development, and the launch of new business services. He holds an M.B.A. with distinction from Columbia Business School and a B.A. from Boston University.

Mr. Sterling is a member of the Board of A Caring Hand, the Billy Esposito Foundation, and previously served on the Board of Karmaloop, LLC until the sale of a majority of its equity to Insight Venture Partners in 2008. He is an active pilot, holding an Airline Transport Pilot license and multi-engine rating, and is a frequent backpacker and traveler. Adventures have included several trips north of the arctic circle in Alaska and Canada, as well as to Antarctica.

Louis E. Black

Louis E. Black, Managing Director. Lee Black has been engaged in private law practice in New York City for over thirty years, having started his career at Carter, Ledyard & Milburn. He formed the law firm of Black & Associates in January, 2002. From 1986 until December, 2001, he was a member of the law firm of DeForest & Duer, as Chairman of its Corporate Department. He also serves as general counsel to other business enterprises.

Mr. Black served as Vice Chairman of MacMillan Ring-Free Oil Co., Inc., a publicly traded oil and gas company, in 1986 and 1987 and was a member of the Board of Directors of Vault.com Inc., a career-oriented Internet and publishing company, from 1999 until October 2007. He currently serves as Chairman of the Board of United Compressor, LLC, a company engaged in the installation and maintenance of compressed natural gas stations and a member of the Board of Directors of the Cleveland E. Dodge Foundation, a private charitable foundation.

Mr. Black received his BA in 1968, his law degree in 1971, and his Master of Laws in Taxation degree in 1979, all from New York University.

Jorge Carrion

Jorge Carrion, Senior Vice President. Prior to his position with Aleutian Capital Partners, Mr. Carrion had worked for six years in South America as a financial analyst and advisor. He has served companies in diverse sectors such as energy, banking and capital markets.

Mr. Carrion, as a financial analyst at Tecsur S.A (energy), was involved in several projects entailing mergers and acquisitions, valuations and capital budgeting. Prior to Tecsur, Mr. Carrion served as a portfolio manager at Banco de Credito, providing financial advisory services to privately held middle-market companies.

During business school, Mr. Carrion worked as an intern at Morgan Stanley in equity research. He earned his MBA from the William E. Simon School, University of Rochester with a major in finance and corporate accounting and a B.A from Universidad de Lima (Peru). Mr. Carrion is fluent in Spanish and enjoys soccer and adventure sports.

David Rampa

David Rampa, Senior Advisor.  Mr. Rampa has over 20 years of international business development and leadership experience in the information technology and telecom industries.  Beginning his career at NCR Computers, he went on to lead business turnarounds in divisions of major telecommunication multinationals (Telstra and SingTel Optus) and start-ups (BHA Computers – database technology company, and Right Party Connect – interactive voice response solution provider where he was the CEO), across international marketplaces.

Mr. Rampa holds a bachelors in business management with majors in marketing and accounting, and a graduate diploma in international business from Queensland University of Technology in Australia.  He is president of ANZACC Midwest (Australia, New Zealand, and American Chamber of Commerce), and a fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.  He is involved in a number of charities including Big Brother Big Sister and World Vision.  He is also an active pilot and aircraft owner, and has flown throughout Australia, the South Pacific, Africa, and most recently across the North Atlantic into Russia, Norway, Estonia, Finland, Germany, France, and the UK.

Mark Farley, Senior Advisor.  Mr. Farley has over eight years of business ownership experience.  Beginning his career as a mechanical engineer at Silicon Valley Graphics (semi-conductor industry), he then started up two companies in Chicago: New Solutions, Inc., which developed high-performance chemicals for the construction industry, and Right-On Applications, Inc. Right-On Applications provided application services of industrial chemicals to contractors and developers and was a separate arm of New Solutions. 

Out of business school, Mr. Farley was a brand manager with Reckitt Benckiser and worked for three years under the brands of Frank’s Red Hot, French’s Mustard and Woolite.  Prior to joining Aleutian Capital, Mr. Farley was President and CEO of Steam Way International, which he purchased after a year of running the business and then sold at the end of 2008. Mr. Farley earned a B.S. in mechanical engineering from the University of Rochester and returned to The University of Rochester to attend The William E. Simon School of Business and Administration where he completed his M.B.A. with a concentration in marketing and organizational strategy.

Noah Anderson

Noah Anderson, Associate. Mr. Anderson has over five years of experience in the private and public sector. He started his career as a budget analyst with the Georgia House of Representatives, House Budget Office. At the House Budget Office, Mr. Anderson managed approximately $770 million in state funds and worked alongside high-ranking members of the Georgia Legislature. Prior to joining Aleutian Capital, Mr. Anderson was a research analyst at Coleman Research Group, a leading New York based independent research firm that serves the hedge fund and private equity industry. While at Coleman Research Group he led the industrial team in marketing efforts in developing relationships with C-level executives and business owners.

Mr. Anderson earned a B.S. in business administration with a concentration in finance from Georgia State University.  He enjoys traveling, hiking, camping, reading and spending time with his family. 

Connie Chan

Connie Chan, Associate. Prior to joining Aleutian Capital, Ms. Chan worked at State Street Corporation’s analytics group with a focus on private equity. She was a summer analyst at Bloomberg L.P. and held an internship position with Moors and Cabot Inc. in the alternative investments group.

Ms. Chan graduated from Boston University’s School of Management with a dual concentration in Finance and Accounting. She enjoys snowboarding, tennis and field hockey, and she is currently a member of a co-ed street hockey league in Manhattan.

Neha Gupta

Neha Gupta, AssociateMs. Gupta joined Aleutian Capital after spending about five years in the technology industry. Three and a half years was in corporate strategy and business development at EDS, an HP company. At EDS, Neha worked extensively on M&A, business strategy, and market research.  Neha started her career at Tata Consultancy Services and later joined Atrenta.

Ms. Gupta received her MBA from the Indian School of Business (Partner schools: Kellogg School of Management and Wharton Business School) with a specialization in finance and marketing.  She did her undergraduate degree in engineering from Netaji Subas Institute of Technology with a specialization in electronics and telecommunications. Neha is a CFA level 3 candidate. In her free time, she loves to travel, dance, shop and participate in adventure sports. 

Ashish Gupta

Ashish Gupta, Senior Analyst. Mr. Gupta was previously an equity trader at Jasper Capital, concentrating in the energy sector.  He has also worked as a financial analyst at L-3 Communications and as a finance systems intern at the London Stock Exchange. 

Mr. Gupta graduated from the University Richmond with degrees in economics and finance. He is currently a CFA level three candidate.  He enjoys swimming and reading, and is an avid New York Yankees fan.

Chris Heasman

Christopher Heasman, Analyst. Before joining Aleutian Capital, Mr. Heasman worked as an equity research analyst at Matrix USA, LLC, a New York based research firm specializing in the EVA methodology. While at Matrix, he covered stocks in the Russell 3000 index, publishing recommendations and writing research reports. He previously held an internship position with Brownstone Asset Management, a New York based long/short distressed debt hedge fund.

Mr. Heasman graduated from Colby College with a Bachelor’s degree in economics and administrative science. He enjoys traveling, hockey, squash and is a fan of the NHL.

Jeremy Isagon

Jeremy Isagon, Analyst. Before joining Aleutian Capital, Jeremy Isagon was an equity trader at SwiftTrade Canada. He specialized in developing trading strategies for the financial sectors on the New York Stock Exchange and Toronto Stock Exchange. He was previously a personal banker and financial advisor at ScotiaBank, providing investment portfolio management, retirement planning and debt restructuring.

Mr. Isagon graduated from the Desautels School of Management at McGill University with a Bachelors in Commerce and a major in finance. He is currently a CFA level three candidate. He enjoys golfing, soccer and scuba diving and is a loyal supporter of the Toronto Raptors and Sheffield Wednesday F.C.

Henry Sandberg

Henry Sandberg, Analyst. Before joining Aleutian, Mr. Sandberg was an equity capital markets analyst with Enam Securities in Mumbai, India, where he worked on IPOs and other equity market transactions. He has also held several positions with the Rosy Blue Group, an international diamond manufacturer.

Mr. Sandberg graduated from McGill University in Montreal, Canada with degrees in Economics and International Development. He is currently a CFA level two candidate. Outside the office, Mr. Sandberg plays saxophone and enjoys basketball and tennis.

Eric Sevillia

Eric Sevillia, Analyst. Prior to his position at Aleutian Capital, Mr. Sevillia worked in the Asset Allocation Group at Oppenheimer Asset Management Inc., helping financial advisors prepare allocation proposals and benchmarking implementations. He also has experience in business planning, market strategy and product development in the technology, healthcare and communication arenas. Prior to that, he worked as an associate in the Global Private Client Group at Merrill Lynch.

Mr. Sevillia graduated from the Stern School of Business at New York University with degrees in economics and finance. He enjoys running, playing tennis and traveling.

Coco Song

Coco Song, AnalystPrior to joining Aleutian, Ms. Song interned at Alternative Asset Investment Management, a New York based capital raising/third party marketing firm to the hedge fund industry.  While there, she worked on a capital raising project for a start-up long/short credit-focused fund.  She also completed two summer internships at Harris Rothenberg International, LLC, in the finance department. 

Ms. Song graduated from Skidmore College with a major in management and business.  Currently she is a CFA level one candidate.  She is also a partner at Gemming Productions, LLC, a start-up documentary film production company.  She enjoys classical music, art and hiking. 

Minh Horn

Minh Horn, Office Manager. Ms. Horn worked for several of Germany’s largest financial institutions including UniCredit Group, HypoVereinsbank Markets & Investment Banking, Generali Lend Lease, and Motorola. At these companies, her roles have included managing all office operations, coordinating travel schedules for senior management, and handling event planning such as major VIP events during the FIFA World Cup 2006 in Munich. Ms. Horn attended the University of Applied Sciences and English at the European Business Collegiate in Munich, Germany. She enjoys travel, art, interior design and is also a big fan of the NHL.
