O. James Sterling, III

O. James Sterling, III, Managing Director. Mr. Sterling founded Aleutian Capital after four years with management consulting firm Booz & Co. (formerly the corporate strategy division of Booz Allen Hamilton), one of the world's largest and most respected strategy and operations consultancies. At Booz & Co., he led projects in business strategy and operations improvement across a range of service and manufacturing industries. Prior to Booz & Co., Mr. Sterling was with Renwick Capital Management, a hedge fund investing in public equities, options, real estate and private equity transactions.

His experience includes buyout and growth capital investing, merger integration, market entry strategy and implementation, evaluation of new business opportunities, business model development, and the launch of new business services. He holds an M.B.A. with distinction from Columbia Business School and a B.A. from Boston University.

Mr. Sterling is a member of the Board of A Caring Hand, the Billy Esposito Foundation, and previously served on the Board of Karmaloop, LLC until the sale of a majority of its equity to Insight Venture Partners in 2008. He is an active pilot, holding an Airline Transport Pilot license and multi-engine rating, and is a frequent backpacker and traveler. Adventures have included several trips north of the arctic circle in Alaska and Canada, as well as to Antarctica.

Louis E. Black

Louis E. Black, Managing Director. Lee Black has been engaged in private law practice in New York City for over thirty years, having started his career at Carter, Ledyard & Milburn. He formed the law firm of Black & Associates in January, 2002. From 1986 until December, 2001, he was a member of the law firm of DeForest & Duer, as Chairman of its Corporate Department. He also serves as general counsel to other business enterprises.

Mr. Black served as Vice Chairman of MacMillan Ring-Free Oil Co., Inc., a publicly traded oil and gas company, in 1986 and 1987 and was a member of the Board of Directors of Vault.com Inc., a career-oriented Internet and publishing company, from 1999 until October 2007. He currently serves as Chairman of the Board of United Compressor, LLC, a company engaged in the installation and maintenance of compressed natural gas stations and a member of the Board of Directors of the Cleveland E. Dodge Foundation, a private charitable foundation.

Mr. Black received his BA in 1968, his law degree in 1971, and his Master of Laws in Taxation degree in 1979, all from New York University.

David J. Fields

David J. Fields, Managing Director. Mr. Fields's 35 year business career has ideally prepared him for assisting business owners in determining the best way of achieving their business goals. He has assisted more than 3,000 owners of middle market companies in reaching the decision to sell all or part of their company, raise growth capital, or, build their company's value before doing either.

Prior to joining Aleutian, Mr. Fields served as the President of companies in diverse industries, including mergers & acquisitions and durable goods manufacturing. Most recently, beginning in 2006, he was President of IBG Capital Markets, Inc., a middle market Mergers and Acquisitions firm. From 2000 to 2006, he served as President of American Management Equities, Inc., a Boston based Mergers & Acquisitions firm. Prior to those leadership roles, he served as Vice President and Corporate Analyst for Matrix Capital Markets Group, Inc., a middle market M & A firm.

In his years as a manufacturer, he was President of the Contemporary Products Group of General Interiors, an AMEX listed company built through acquisition, and eventually successfully sold to General Mills, where he continued as President of the Contemporary Products Group of General Interiors, a wholly owned subsidiary of General Mills.

It is this broad business experience which allows him to make sound recommendations to the owners of middle market companies as to how they can best achieve their goals, and what alternative options they have to achieve those goals.

In his leisure time, Mr. Fields enjoys all outdoor activities, particularly water sports and hiking. He is also an active participant in various charitable activities. Mr. Fields received Bs.J. and Ms.J. degrees, with Distinction, from Northwestern University. He served as a Captain in the United States Marine Corp.

Jorge Carrion

Jorge Carrion, Senior Vice President. Prior to his position with Aleutian Capital Partners, Mr. Carrion had worked for six years in South America as a financial analyst and advisor. He has served companies in diverse sectors such as energy, banking and capital markets.

Mr. Carrion, as a financial analyst at Tecsur S.A (energy), was involved in several projects entailing mergers and acquisitions, valuations and capital budgeting. Prior to Tecsur, Mr. Carrion served as a portfolio manager at Banco de Credito, providing financial advisory services to privately held middle-market companies.

During business school, Mr. Carrion worked as an intern at Morgan Stanley in equity research. He earned his MBA from the William E. Simon School, University of Rochester with a major in finance and corporate accounting and a B.A from Universidad de Lima (Peru). Mr. Carrion is fluent in Spanish and enjoys soccer and adventure sports.

David J. Fields

Aieslynd Roberts, Vice President. Before joining Aleutian, beginning in 2007, Ms. Roberts served as Operations Manager of IBG Capital Markets, Inc., a middle market Mergers and Acquisitions firm. In this role, she interfaced with over 1100 business owners, thus gaining an understanding of their goals and a deep appreciation of their need for confidentiality.

From 2002 until 2007, she was the Financial Controller of a leading residential construction company. In 2001 Aieslynd opened & operated a photography studio, Frost Photographic Arts, Inc., which was successfully sold in 2004.

For the first 8 years of her career, she traveled the world as a contracted model signed with OAS International Agency. She especially enjoyed runway & photo-shoots abroad for brands such as Quicksilver's Roxy Division. As a result, Aieslynd carries a love and unique understanding of international travel and culture with her in all her dealings.

She is an avid hiker, mountain biker, surfer, snowboarder and physical fitness advocate. She is also an active hospice volunteer. Ms. Roberts earned her BsJ. Degree, with a major in marketing, at San Diego State University.

Daniel Pfeffer

Daniel Pfeffer, Operating Partner. Mr. Pfeffer is an entrepreneurial executive possessing a fifteen-year track record of strategic business planning, financial management, developing revenue channels, and extensive experience in e-commerce including industry speaking engagements. He has successfully built and exited businesses under management to both private equity sponsors and strategic investors.

Mr. Pfeffer's most recent experience includes holding the position of President/CEO of the New York based multi-channel home furnishing retailer Lighting By Gregory. He spearheaded the development of the ecommerce channel for the company, which was the recipient of the Forbes Enterprise award. Under his management, the company's revenue doubled within three years and was sold to a west coast private equity firm. Previously he was a Senior Manager at the online affiliate solution provider Linkshare Corporation where he helped manage online marketing programs for Fortune 500 internet retailers such as Dell, Wal-Mart and Target. Mr. Pfeffer has also managed multiple website launches for many B to B and B to C companies including clothing retailer London Fog.

Mr. Pfeffer earned a Master's of Business Administration degree from the University of Colorado, Denver. He earned his Bachelors of Arts degree at the University of Colorado, Boulder. Mr. Pfeffer is an avid skier and tennis player and is also a member of the Young Presidents Organization in New York City.

Jeremiah Isagon

Jeremiah Isagon, Associate. Before joining Aleutian Capital, Jeremiah was an equity trader at SwiftTrade Canada. He specialized in developing trading strategies for the financial sectors on the New York Stock Exchange and Toronto Stock Exchange. He was previously a personal banker and financial advisor at ScotiaBank, providing investment portfolio management, retirement planning and debt restructuring.

Mr. Isagon is a CFA charterholder and received a Bachelor of Commerce (major in finance) from the Desautels School of Management at McGill University. He enjoys golfing, soccer and scuba diving and is a loyal supporter of the Toronto Raptors and Sheffield Wednesday F.C.

Jesse Zhai

Jesse Zhai, Senior Analyst. Mr. Zhai has a diverse set of experiences including investment banking, quantitative modeling, equity analysis, and Chinese trade financing. He graduated from Washington University in St. Louis with a Bachelor’s degree in Finance. He also has a Master’s degree in Financial Engineering from the University of Hawaii, where his graduate thesis centered on the application of quantum mechanics to barrier option pricing.

Mr. Zhai is currently a member of the Mensa Society and previously was a chairman for several community events held by the Chinese Chamber of Commerce of Hawaii. He enjoys playing soccer, skiing, snorkeling, and surfing.

Ji Sang Lee

Ji Sang Lee, Senior Analyst. Prior to joining Aleutian Capital, Mr. Lee worked in the Wealth Management Division at Wedbush Securities. Before Wedbush, he was an intern at the headquarters of Starwood Hotels & Resorts. During his internship in the Corporate Development team, he assisted in various M&A transactions and participated in a presentation of recommendations to the Senior Leadership Team.

Mr. Lee graduated from St. Johns University in New York with a Bachelors degree in Finance. At St John’s, he was selected to the prestigious Student Managed Investment Fund, where he was given the opportunity to actively manage the school's multimillion dollar equity portfolio. He is currently a CFA level one candidate. He enjoys traveling, snowboarding and is a fan of the New York Rangers and Manchester United F.C.

Bret Cooper

Bret Cooper, Analyst. Prior to joining Aleutian Capital, Mr. Cooper worked as an intern at Morgan Stanley Smith Barney on two separate occasions.  During the first of these internships, he created materials for a specific group within the firm to maintain relationships with current institutional investors and to gather new clients.  During the second of these internships, he assisted a separate group to prepare materials for clients and manage customer accounts.

Mr. Cooper graduated from Dartmouth College in New Hampshire with a Bachelor’s degree in History.  At Dartmouth, he was the treasurer of his fraternity, Chi Gamma Epsilon, and served on the business staff of the newspaper as well as Dartmouth’s Committee on Standards.  He enjoys traveling and snowmobiling and is an avid Yankees fan.

Kendall Fukumoto

Kendall Fukumoto, Analyst. Prior to joining Aleutian Capital, Mr. Fukumoto worked in the accounting department for Hungry Man Productions, where he assisted in managing payments of accounts payable and assessing financial budgets of up to $2 million for union commercials.

Mr. Fukumoto graduated from Fordham University in 2011 with a B.Sc. in Engineering Physics and a minor in Business Administration. At Fordham University He received a scholarship to compete for the Men's Varsity Tennis team, where he was named to the Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll. He was also a member of the Men's Varsity Squash Team. He enjoys traveling, gastronomy and is an avid Lakers fan.
